The Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) was founded in 1960 in the city of Florianópolis, capital of the state of Santa Catarina, South Brazil. UFSC community consists of around 50 thousand people, including students, faculty and staff. Its multi-campus structure offers more than 100 undergraduate programs and 140 graduate programs, distributed among the cities of Araranguá, Blumenau, Curitibanos, Joinville and Florianópolis (main campus). The social recognition for its teaching, research and outreach activities places UFSC among the best and largest public universities in the country and in Latin America. Due to its history, UFSC consolidates itself as a public, tuition-free institution, committed to the construction of a fair, civically-engaged and universal society.

The UFSC Joinville Campus develops teaching, research and outreach activities aimed at training professionals with high technical and managerial competence to work in the operation and maintenance of transportation systems, in the study of scenarios and projects to solve infrastructure problems, and in the development of technological systems in mobility-focused areas. Installed within a business and technology condominium, the Joinville Campus seeks to bring the university, industry and society closer together. Its infrastructure totals 13 thousand m² of built area and includes classrooms, administrative offices, teaching and research laboratories, university restaurant and a branch library. About two thousand people – among students, faculty, and technical and administrative staff – make up the Joinville Campus today.
