Competition Teams

The Competition Teams are a student initiative and consist of groups of undergraduate and/or graduate students organized as a team with the aim of representing UFSC in academic competitions.

In 2016, the activities of the competition teams at UFSC were regulated by the Normative Resolution No. 87/2016/CUn.

Barco Solar BabitongaBabitonga Solar Boat is a university project, made up of students and professors who aim to develop vehicles powered exclusively by photovoltaic solar energy. The mechanical, electrical and on-board navigation systems are developed by the team, together with the design and manufacture of the hull. Since 2010, it participates in the Desafio Solar Brasil [Brazil Solar Challenge], a rally of boats powered by solar energy with teams from all over the country.Website: babitonga.webnode.com

Botcem

Botcem is a robotics competition team created in 2011 at the Joinville School of Technology (CTJ). It is composed of undergraduate Science and Technology, Mechatronics Engineering, and Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering students divided into five cells – administrative unit, Hobbyweight combat robot (5.4kg), mini sumo robot (500g), line follower robot, and Beetleweight combat robot (1.4 kg).

Bateria Nota CEM

The Bateria Nota CEM is a student percussion band, along the lines of a traditional samba school bateria, which seeks to enhance the musical experience of UFSC Joinville students through different musical rhythms. The group participates in percussion band competitions with students from other undergraduate programs and institutions.

Cheerleading Team of the Joinville School of Technology (CTJ)’s Student Athletic Association. They participate in internal and external competitions.

CTJ Baja UFSC

The CTJ Baja UFSC team designs and builds off-road vehicles to participate in regional and national competitions promoted by SAE Brasil. Besides the technical skills, the team also prepares students for the professional life: the so-called “Bajeiros” receive training in the areas of people and resource management, leadership and marketing.

DUNA

DUNA – University Nautidesign Challenge is a project created at UFSC Joinville, in 2013, which consists of an unprecedented university competition in Brazil with international participation. Participating teams are challenged to build a functional small-scale vessel model. The prototypes are submitted to a series of tests, in order to evaluate the quality of the design and construction. The purpose of the event is to encourage the emergence of new projects in the area of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and the interaction between future engineers.

Eficem

Eficem is the Energy Efficiency team at UFSC Joinville. It focuses on the development of automotive prototypes, aiming at efficiency and innovation. The team participates in competitions in the area, the main one being the Shell Eco Marathon Americas/Brazil. With only four years of existence, it has won top positions in the international competition and in 2015 it obtained the title of lightest car, maintaining this mark for three consecutive years.

Fórmula Cem

The formula CEM team aims to develop Formula-SAE vehicle prototypes with internal combustion (IC) engine and electric vehicle (EV) engine to participate in the student competition events promoted by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) of Brazil. In 2019, it won first place in the “efficiency – combustion category” in the national competition. In 2021, the electric car ranked third in the same competition.

Holandês Voador

The Holandês Voador [Flying Dutch] ship modeling team was created in 2013 to participate in the University Ship Model Challenge (DUNA). It has won the competition twice, in 2017 and in 2018.

Hydra

The Hydra team was created in 2017 to participate in the University Ship Model Challenge (DUNA). In 2018, the team got 4th position in the tug of war competition, receiving praise for the hull performance and for items in the design report.

InfraTEC

InfraTEC is a competition team made up of Civil Infrastructure Engineering students at UFSC Joinville. It develops and executes projects through prototypes in several areas of infrastructure, aiming at competitions and at contributing to the improvement of techniques and materials. It is divided into three areas: Structures, Geotechnics and Materials. The team participates in competitions such as APO IBRACON, Bridge Challenge, and Challenge of Slopes.

Kosmos Rocketry

Kosmos was founded in 2013 by a group of students who wanted to apply in practice the knowledge acquired in the classroom by constructing rockets. The Kosmos team participates in two major events: the Latin American Space Challenge (LASC) in São Paulo and the Brazilian Minirocket Festival in Curitiba.

Nisus Aerodesign

Nisus Aerodesign is an aerodesign competition team that creates and executes projects in the field of Aeronautical Engineering. Its main objective is to design and build a small radio-controlled aircraft capable of taking off carrying cargo inside it. The team participates annually in the SAE Brasil AeroDesign competition.

Seven Seas Nautidesign

The UFSC Joinville Seven Seas Nautidesign team was founded in 2019 with the main objective of improving and expanding the knowledge acquired in the classroom through the practice of building a small-scale tugboat prototype. In order to achieve the desired performance, the team is divided into 5 main areas: Commercial, Transmission, Shipbuilding, Propulsion System and Electrical.

Terra

 Created in 2018, the team researches and develops an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) capable of operating in unfamiliar environments and collecting data and samples, both solid and liquid. Currently, the team is organized into five areas: Structures, Energy and Propulsion, Electronics, Space Research and Marketing.
