Competition Teams

The Competition Teams are a student initiative and consist of groups of undergraduate and/or graduate students organized as a team with the aim of representing UFSC in academic competitions.

In 2016, the activities of the competition teams at UFSC were regulated by the Normative Resolution No. 87/2016/CUn.

Barco Solar Babitonga

The Babitonga Solar Boat is a university project made up of students and faculty who aim to develop vehicles powered exclusively by photovoltaic solar energy. The mechanical, electrical and on-board navigation systems are developed by the team, together with the design and manufacture of the hull. Since 2010, it participates in the Desafio Solar Brasil [Brazil Solar Challenge], a rally of boats powered by solar energy with teams from all over the country.

Botcem

Botcem is a robotics competition team created in 2011 at the Joinville School of Technology (CTJ). It is composed of undergraduate students from the Science and Technology, Mechatronics Engineering, and Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering programs, organized into five subteams: administrative unit, Hobbyweight combat robot (5.4 kg), mini sumo robot (500g), line follower robot, and Beetleweight combat robot (1.4 kg).

Bateria Nota CEM

The Bateria Nota CEM is a student percussion band, along the lines of a traditional samba school bateria, which seeks to enhance the musical experience of UFSC Joinville students through different musical rhythms. The group participates in percussion band competitions with students from other undergraduate programs and institutions.

Cheerleaders Camaleão

Cheerleaders Camaleão is the Cheerleading Team of the Joinville School of Technology (CTJ)’s Student Athletic Association. They participate in internal and external competitions.

CTJ Baja UFSC

The CTJ Baja UFSC team designs and builds off-road vehicles to participate in regional and national competitions promoted by SAE Brasil. Besides the technical skills, the team also prepares students for the professional life: the so-called “Bajeiros” receive training in the fields of people and resource management, leadership, and marketing.

CEMCodes

CEMCodes is a competitive programming group dedicated to fostering a culture of competitive programming and encouraging student partiicpation in programming contests. These competitions promote essential skills for computer science professionals to stand out in the job market, such as creativity, teamwork, the development of innovative software solutions, and the ability to solve problems under pressure.

Draconis Drone Design aims to compete, conduct research, and provide students with experiences beyond the university environment. DUNA

DUNA – Nautidesign University Challenge is a project created in 2013 at UFSC Joinville, which consists of an unprecedented university competition in Brazil with international participation. Participating teams are challenged to build a functional small-scale vessel model. The prototypes are submitted to a series of tests, in order to evaluate the quality of the design and construction. The purpose of the event is to encourage the emergence of new projects in the field of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and the interaction between future engineers.

Eficem

Eficem is the Energy Efficiency team at UFSC Joinville. It focuses on the development of automotive prototypes, with an emphasis on efficiency and innovation. Created in 2012, the team participates in competitions in the field, most notably the Shell Eco-Marathon Americas/Brazil. It has achieved top positions in the international competition, winning the title of lightest car in 2015 and maintaining this record for three consecutive years.

Fórmula Cem

The formula CEM team aims to develop Formula-SAE vehicle prototypes with internal combustion (IC) engine and electric vehicle (EV) engine to participate in the student competition events promoted by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) of Brazil. In 2019, it won first place in the “efficiency – combustion category” in the national competition. In 2021, the electric car ranked third in the same competition.

The Holandês Voador [Flying Dutch] ship modeling team was created in 2013 to participate in the Nautidesign University Challenge (DUNA). It has won the competition twice, in 2017 and in 2018.

Hydra

The Hydra team was created in 2017 to participate in the Nautidesign University Challenge (DUNA). In 2018, the team placed 4th in the tug-of-war competition, receiving praise for its hull performance and aspects of its design report.

InfraTEC

InfraTEC is a competition team composed of Civil Infrastructure Engineering students at UFSC Joinville. It develops and executes projects through prototyping in various areas of infrastructure, aiming to compete and contribute to the advancement of techniques and materials. The team is organized into three areas: Structures, Geotechnics, and Materials. It participates in competitions such as APO IBRACON, Desafio de Pontes (Bridge Challenge), and Desafio de Taludes (Slope Challenge).

Kosmos Rocketry

Kosmos Rocketry is an experimental sounding rocket team. Founded in 2013, it has established itself as one of the largest rocketry teams in Brazil, holding the national apogee record. It is composed of students who apply knowledge acquired in the classroom and develop new expertise in the field. The team participates in two major international competitions: the International Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC), in Texas, USA, and the Latin American Space Challenge (LASC), in São Paulo, Brazil.

Nisus Aerodesign

Nisus Aerodesign is an aerodesign competition team that develops and executes projects in the field of Aeronautical Engineering. Its main objective is to design and build a small radio-controlled aircraft capable of taking off while carrying cargo. The team participates annually in the SAE Brasil AeroDesign competition.

Seven Seas Nautidesign

The UFSC Joinville Seven Seas Nautidesign team was founded in 2019 with the main objective of enhancing and expanding the knowledge acquired in the classroom through the hands-on development of a small-scale tugboat prototype. To achieve the desired performance, the team is organized into 5 main areas: Management, Transmission, Naval Architecture, Propulsion System, and Electrical System.

Terra

Founded in 2018, the team focuses on the research and development of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) capable of operating in unfamiliar environments and collecting data and samples (both solid and liquid). Currently, the team is organized into five areas: Structures, Energy and Propulsion, Electronics, Space Research and Marketing.
